THE PUCKS MARTHA CD RELEASE CONCERT
Perhaps you are unfamiliar with this delightful trio with a made-for-2010 moniker and that's OK. Because unless you frequent Prince George, your opportunities to catch the group's charming and quirky folk/rock sounds have been pretty infrequent
FUN, SEXY AND SEDUCTIVE TUNES ON NEW PUCKS CD
Up there in the top 10 of my picks this year is an issue from local pop folk trio, The Pucks
Gable's talent for penning folksy songs ,chock full of the familiar...make them just plain fun, and wonderful listening.
Musicianship is outstanding...Martha is the cleanest best-sounding Pucks recording yet thanks..to the wonderworks of Jason Mauza, Producer who has worked with big names like Kiss, Everclear and KD Lang.
Martha is a polished package of music, fit for listeneners who lean towards the pop/folk/country sound
Personally, it's more than a favourite, Martha has become a choice gift for friends and family.
Pick up Martha at HMV...

THE PUCKS RELEASE NEW RECORDING
ThaT dynamic rock pop anything goes trio The Pucks are at long last coming out with a new release. The Pucks are playing the Grand Opening of The VANCOUVER CONVENTION CENTRE April 4 and 5
The Pucks played the RAILWAY CLUB in Vancouver March 25, sharing the stage with Pawnshop Diamond
PUCKS PLEASE PACKED HOUSE
Just like in hockey, the Pucks always have a game plan. Play hard, please the fans and always leave 'em wanting more.
When they exited the stage at Treasure Cove Showroom..they left behind a room full of deliriously happy fans
People love the Pucks..they gave a high-energy, non-stop show that delivered as promised.
The popular trio did all that and proved (again) music lovers like what they do
MARTHA, MARTHA, MARTHA
The Pucks fly High with new CD
The Pucks have been scoring on every shot lately, and they're delivering a blast from the high slot next week
they were featured on stage at THE RAILWAY CLUB in Vancouver during the JUNO AWARDS extravaganza.
They were selected to represent the Prince George region..to officially open the VANCOUVER CONVENTION CENTRE...then comes their introduction of "MARTHA' to the world.
Martha is a character in a song, the name of the album...she was the last known passenger pigeon..died in captivity in 1914..her species was hunted to extinction...the song - wrapped in the refrain "there'll be no one in the universe / lonely as the human race"- is a red flag for environmental over indulgence
the trio (first under the name GROUP DU JOUR) are now known coast to coast and across the border. They are one of the most acclaimed music acts Prince George has ever produced.
MARTHA A GREAT LISTEN
Pucks's Latest CD a Treat from start to Finish
Meet Martha. My new BFF is a great CD. Martha is the title song of The Pucks' sensational new album
...ten origianl songs, all with something different to offer. Had I not been behind the wheel and strapped into my seat, I'd have gotten up and danced
..this is a high-energy feel-good CD but Martha's got some heart and soul too.
..you'll love listening to Martha (No One in the Universe) a compelling song with beautifully written lyrics and a hauting list of endangered species. Nice work Gable
Cindy is at her best ever in the sexy sultry tune Intoxicated...her vocals onW atch Me..are right up there with her best performances...No More Little Woman is a sassy very upbeat tune that shows off her vocal range
Milk Man's Son and Rifle and a Bible are 2 songs where Gable's lyrics are so clever they make you smile.
More Than Just a Woman, written for movie The Beast of Bottomless Lake, is just a riot..Lloyd's lungs are hard at work..if he weren't so busy playing sousaphone and upright bass twith the Pucks he could be his own Big Band Boss..
Review - THE PUCKS -- Are We There Yet!
ARE WE THERE YET!
The Pucks
Independent
7-out-of-10
I popped Are We There Yet! on the CD player not sure what exactly to expect, after all it's not too often you see a CD cover where one of the musicians is holding a sousaphone.
Well, the CD was as much a surprise as the photograph.
The CD starts out with Favourite Fantasy, a Latin-flavoured song with a sultry texture, which is highlighted as the introduction to the voice of Cindy Larsen. Larsen's voice is very nice, and could be at home singing anything from folk to jazz, and I'd love to hear her take on some Gothic metal.
Hailing from British Columbia, The Pucks call themselves a folk/pop trio, although really they spend a limited amount of time paying homage to folk in my find. This is what I would term a melting pot pop band that is most at home on the very edge of the genre.
I will grant there is folk instrumentation here, with whistle, harmonica, and bass, but this trio does a good job of taking their sound a bit more mainstream.
Murray Gable is the male vocalist here, and he too has a notable voice. You will fall for it once you hit the song Cinema, and will grow to appreciate as the CD moves through its 11 cuts.
Lloyd Larsen, who plays the sousaphone, along with the bass, rounds out this interesting trio.
One thing about this CD, by the time it's over, you know you've arrived at a place you're happy to be, because the trip has been so much fun listening to The Pucks perform.

PUCKS CERTAINLY DIDN’T DROP BALL WITH PERFORMANCE

Last Friday night at Café Voltaire at Books & Company, Prince George’s veteran folk-pop group, the Pucks, gave a spur-of-the-moment concert to a packed audience.
It had been many months in between a live performance from the group, so the audience was happy to be primed with hits from previous Pucks albums as well as some new original gems and a couple of stunning covers.
They told the audience they’ve been together for 17 years now, and time has certainly helped meld the three members - Cindy Larsen on percussion and vocals, Lloyd Larsen on upright bass and sousaphone and Murray Gable on guitar and vocals - into a perfect musical unit.
Favourites from previous releases played Friday included Cinema, Child In Between and the rousing, raucous No More Little Woman. Watching Cindy Larsen pour heart and soul into this number made it a grand finale for the concert.
Gable is the songwriter of the group and his tales of northern life are a trademark virtue.
As for the covers, Larsen’s take on the Norah Jones hit Don’t know Why outdid the original, with a sweet smooth delivery that mesmerized the crowd.
On the other end of the musical spectrum was a tune Gable penned for a new movie being shot in B.C. called The Beast of Bottomless Lake. Co-authored by Prince George-born writer and actor Kennedy Goodkey, the movie is described as a “documentary” of a team of scientists searching Okanagan Lake for the legendary Ogopogo. Along with providing a decadent tune for the film, Cindy Larsen and Gable recently served as cast extras.
While the movie is big news for the group, they’re also enjoying wider exposure across Western Canada. They’re heading for a concert in Moose Jaw, Sask., this weekend and then off to the Ness Creek Festival in Big River, Sask., July 19th to 22nd

Doug Cox - Vancouver Island Music Festival
It has been my privilege to have had The Pucks perform at our festival for the past 3 years.
They are a talented, entertaining, hard working, open minded band who are a pleasure to work and deal with. They know exactly how to read their audience, work with a crowd whether small or large, are full of good humour and have the crucial ability at a festival to work with their fellow artists. They confidently lead jam sessions, work alongside famous or not famous artists with the same enthusiasm and passion. Their music is their own and flirts between respective genres. Cindy Larsen is a dynamic tour de force, Murray Gable one talented songwriter and...Lloyd brings it all together with his own distinct flavour. I would highly recommend this band to any festival stage as they especially have the utmost respect for their audience and truly understand the dynamics involved in what exactly a festival is all about.
